Prime Minister's Award for Birlasoft Implemented RMS project at CBEC

Birlasoft's implementation of Risk Management System (RMS) at the Central Board of Excise & Customs (CBEC) won the Prime Minister's Award for Excellence in Public Administration for the year 2007-08. The award was given on the occasion of Civil Services Day 2009 by Shri Hamid Ansari, Hon'ble Vice President of India.

It was in August 2004 that Birlasoft got engaged with the CBEC, Ministry of Finance, Government of India, to deliver a RMS. The project has been designed and developed by Birlasoft along with a small team of Customs officers.

On receiving the coveted award the CBEC's press release stated, "The implementation of RMS has revolutionized the customs import clearance process by cutting down the clearance time drastically. Indian Customs has also collected extra revenue of Rs 2363.22 crores in 2008-2009 due to this RMS."

Reflecting on the award, Birlasoft's chief executive officer, J Ramachandran said, "The Risk Management System has been implemented in 23 major Customs ports/airports covering about 85% of India's international trade. Receiving the PM's award is a moment of pride for CBEC and us. We look forward to working more closely with the central and state governments in bringing technology benefits to the common man".

With the introduction of RMS, importers have greatly benefited by way of reduction in dwell time and transaction costs. Today, they are able to plan their logistics and supply chain as per global standards and follow 'Just in time' principles.
